How to Start Dropshipping Personalized Products?

Selling personalized products online is extremely similar to selling any other dropshipping product, but to successfully dropship personalized products, you need to find different types of suppliers.

Ideally, you’ll be looking for print on demand, white-label or private-label suppliers.

Step 1 – Choose a Niche for Your Dropshipping Personalized Products

To start dropshipping personalized products, you need to select a niche that resonates with your target audience.

Your niche should align with their interests, making it easier to create custom products that attract customers. So, dive into different sources of inspiration within your chosen niche to gather ideas for personalized dropshipping products.

For example, I often use Google Trends to estimate customer interest and demand for custom products like “personalized gifts” or “custom jewelry.”

These categories frequently show high demand, indicating a promising market for your online business.

Moreover, I suggest you use product research tools like Minea to assess whether a product is profitable, in demand, and selling well.

minea dropshipping personalized products

If Minea isn’t the right fit, alternatives, like Sell The Trends, Adserea, or Peeksta, can also help you analyze market trends and identify the best dropshipping personalized products.

Step 2 – Select Reliable Dropshipping Suppliers

Once you’ve chosen your niche, the next step is finding reliable suppliers specializing in customizable dropshipping products.

Hence, you have two options for creating your designs: do it yourself using graphic design tools or outsource to professionals who understand your vision for personalized products.

Partnering with custom dropshipping suppliers is crucial for maintaining product quality and customer satisfaction.

Thus, you need to sign up with a third-party supplier that offers robust customization options, consistent quality, and reliable shipping times.

Moreover, pay attention to factors such as product quality, shipping costs, and delivery times are vital when choosing the right dropshipping suppliers.

I recommend using the Dropshipping.com supplier directory, which lists over 2,000 suppliers, including many specializing in custom products.

This directory provides detailed insights into suppliers’ prices, services, and more, making it easier to find the best fit for your dropshipping business.

Step 3– Develop Your Designs and Brand Identity for Custom Products

Creating a distinctive brand identity is essential for standing out in the market, especially when you’re offering custom products.

Like successful private label and direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands, your focus should be on developing unique product designs and building a strong reputation with your customers.

So, start by crafting a brand voice that resonates with your audience, and ensure that your custom product designs reflect your brand’s unique style.

When designing your custom products, think about what will appeal most to your target audience.

You can use tools like Canva or Adobe Illustrator to create high-quality, unique designs for various products, such as custom mugs, phone cases, or wall art.

In addition to your designs, make sure that your brand’s values and messaging are clear and consistent across all channels, including your website, social media, and packaging.

This consistency helps reinforce your brand identity and ensures that customers know what to expect from your products.

Step 4 – Create Your Personalized Dropshipping Products

After selecting your dropshipping supplier, it’s time to create and dropship personalized products. Start by browsing your supplier’s catalog to select customizable dropshipping products that suit your niche.

For instance, I often use the Apliiq product catalog to choose items like personalized T-shirts or phone cases.

apliiq

Then, I use their mockup generator to design my products. This tool lets you add graphics, text, and personalized messages. So, you can customize the product to fit your brand’s unique style.

The mockup generator also lets you visualize your design on the chosen product before it goes into production, ensuring quality control and helping maintain a consistent quality standard for your online store.

Step 5 – Set Up Your Online Store for Dropshipping Personalized Products

Creating an ecommerce store is the next step in launching your dropshipping business.

A well-designed online store is crucial for showcasing personalized products and attracting customers.

I suggest using an ecommerce platform like Shopify, which is known for its user-friendly interface and variety of customization options.

Hence, you can choose from their customizable store template and design it however you want with their drag-and-drop editor.

shopify store

You can change colors, add or remove blocks and sections, change headings, titles, etc.

Shopify’s integration with many dropshipping platforms makes it easy to upload your custom products and manage your business efficiently.

However, you can offer your custom products on other selling channels as well. For example, Facebook Marketplace is a great option if you want to sell locally.

On the other hand, if you want the customer base brought to you, Etsy marketplace is a great option for custom products.

Step 6 – Market Your Dropshipping Business

Marketing your personalized dropshipping products is essential to building a successful online business.

I suggest you use various strategies, such as social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook), SEOemail marketing, and paid ads, to reach your target audience and boost your online store’s visibility.

For example, if you’re targeting younger online shoppers, platforms like TikTok and Instagram are great for engaging with your audience. For older demographics, Facebook Ads can be more effective.

Additionally, cross-selling, up-selling, and promotional codes can enhance customer loyalty and drive more sales.

Integrating video marketing is another powerful strategy for showcasing your dropshipping products, highlighting their features, and effectively demonstrating their benefits.

How to Personalize Your Dropshipping Products in 2024? [Best 6 Practices]

The best way to design custom products is to use a graphics design tool and do it yourself.

However, if you’re bad at this, you can always hire a freelancer who has more experience and have them take care of it for you.

In any case, the most effective ways to personalize dropshipping products are the following:

1. Use a Free Tool Like Canva

Canva is the all-time best tool for dropshippers starting a new store. This platform is completely free, and it lets you design custom logos from scratch and edit your images.

Canva also lets you create instant product mockups without special design skills.

You can start by creating your Canva account. If you’re new, click “Sign up.” If you’ve used Canva before, just click “Log in.” Enter your details to get started, and you’re ready to begin designing!

dropshipping personalized products

Next, pick a template that fits your project. For example, say you want to design a logo for your dropshipping business. Click on “Logos” to see various options.

dropshipping personalized products

If you want to create your own design from scratch, just click “Create Blank” and start designing!

Furthermore, customize your design using the tools on the left side of the screen. You can change fonts, sizes, colors, and styles or add elements from the toolbar.

dropshipping personalized products

If you have images to upload, do it here. You can even draw your own elements if you like!

When you’re happy with your design, click “Share” to choose how you want to share it. You can make it public, share it with specific people, or keep it private.

dropshipping personalized products

If you want to download it, scroll down to “Download” and choose the size and file type. Once ready, click “Download” again to save it to your computer.

2. Go Pro With Photoshop

If you already know a thing or two about graphics design, Photoshop is the tool for you. Once mastered, this tool lets you create basically whatever you want.

For example, can make product mockups out of anything, send them to your supplier, and see what they can do.

Thus, here’s how I use it:

To create a mockup in Photoshop, I start by measuring the width and height of your object, such as a can.

dropshipping personalized products

So, I use the line tool to help with this, then delete any unnecessary layers. Select the rectangle tool, click anywhere on the screen, and adjust the settings to match your object’s dimensions.

Next, I use the move tool to position my shape, then double-click to change its color. Furthermore, I press Control + T and scale the shape while holding Shift to keep the proportions correct.

dropshipping personalized products

The next thing I do is right-click and choose Convert to Smart Object to easily make future edits, then adjust the shape using the Warp tool to fit it closely around your object.

dropshipping personalized products

Once the shape is aligned, I set the fill back to 100%. For that purpose, I use the pen tool to create a precise selection around the object or load a saved selection.

In the layers panel, I can create a new group, add a layer mask, and drag your design layer into this group.

dropshipping personalized products

Double-click the smart object layer, drag your design into Photoshop, save, and close the tab to apply the design to your mockup. Change the blending mode to Linear Burn for realistic shadows.

dropshipping personalized products

Moreover, I personally use a Solid Color adjustment layer for the background. Next, I select my preferred color and invert the mask with Control + I.

Finally, I finish by adjusting the exposure with the Camera Raw Filter to enhance the shine and realism of your mockup.

3. Use Product Personalizer

Add unlimited options for your web customers to personalize your listed products and see a live preview of them before buying.

They can experiment and customize texts, logos, textures, images, maps, clipart, and more!

It will add extra value for our customers, and you will get more engaged clientele and eventually increase your sales.

For example, Zazzle allows customers to personalize a wide range of products, including clothing, accessories, home decor, and more. I love this! And, I personally think it adds extra value for customers.

dropshipping personalized products

When shopping on Zazzle, customers can add their own text, upload images, choose from various fonts, colors, and clipart, and see a live preview of the customized product before purchasing.

For this purpose, I suggest you try Customily. Try it for free on Shopify! You can add texts, fonts, colors, images, and star maps and use their AI dall-e generator. Plus, they offer clipart collections and full design templates ready to apply and print.

4. Hire Graphics Design Freelancers

At the end of the day, if you don’t have time or are bad at design, freelancers can always do it for you.

Simply go to Fiverr or Upwork, find a good freelancer for a decent price, and contact them for further instructions.

5. Use Private Label Dropshipping

Private label dropshipping is perfect if you want to start dropshipping personalized products and make your online store stand out.

Unlike traditional dropshipping, where everyone sells the same things, dropshipping personalized products lets you create a unique brand experience for your customers.

You can select customizable dropshipping products from many dropshipping suppliers, add your own brand logo, and customize the packaging to match your brand’s style.

For me, Zendrop is a go-to private label supplier. It has amazing features and branding elements.

This approach attracts customers and enhances customer satisfaction by offering something truly unique.

Imagine you’re in the custom clothing or phone cases niche. With private label suppliers, you could dropship custom products like t-shirts with unique designs or personalized cases with names or initials.

Also, Supliful is a great option if you want to dropship vitamins or proteins and even some fun options like personalized coffee.

This level of personalization not only meets individual customer preferences but also encourages customer loyalty. Shoppers feel a stronger connection to products that feel specially made for them.

6. Use Print On Demand Services

Last but not least, print on demand (POD) services are an excellent way to dropship personalized products without the need for large upfront investments or inventory management.

With POD, you can offer a range of customizable dropshipping products, from custom clothing like t-shirts and hoodies to personalized accessories such as jewelry, wall art, and even pet toys.

Hence, you can easily add your own brand designs, logos, or custom text to each item, making every product unique to your online store.

When a customer places an order, your POD service provider prints the design on the product and handles the fulfillment of the order and shipping costs.

For instance, I use Printful for my custom t-shirt dropshipping. Thus, I easily select a product, add my design (which I previously made on Canva), and handle everything from the Printful dashboard.

Their Mockup Generator is simple. It lets you customize your design with text, graphics, quotes, and colors to suit your style.
